July 20 - 21, 2007

Two Weeks Left! Are You Ready?

July 20 and 21st are closer then you think! Only two weeks until the fun begins. Only two weeks until hundreds of homeschoolers converge on the Science Museum of Virginia to get their passports stamped for a weekend of learning and inspiration. Time is running out, so we have pulled together a checklist of items you shouldn't forget! Have you...

Sent in Your Registration Forms?

It is still not too late to send in your registration. While walk-ins are more than welcome and we will be accepting registrations up to and including the weekend of the conference, registering is much appreciated and greatly helps with our planning. To reduce the chance of late arrival, we ask that you do not mail your forms after July 13. Instead, please bring a completed registration form with you to the Science Museum of Virginia on Friday or Saturday (but don't worry, we will also have forms available at check-in if you forget).

At this time, there is still ample room in most sessions, with only two sessions closed: Homeschooling with Infants and Toddlers and Montessori in the Home. Register now to ensure your spot!

Download registration forms and information here: www.vahomeschoolers.org/2007conference/registration.asp

Made Your Hotel Reservations?

There are still discounted rooms available in the VaHomeschoolers Conference block at the host hotel: The Holiday Inn/Crossroads. Ask for the VaHomeschoolers Block Discount. We have had reports that some attendees have been told that the host hotel is full. This is NOT the case and there are still rooms available at the discounted rate. The cut-off date for booking your hotel at the discounted rate has been extended until July 19th. If you have any problems booking your room, please ask to speak to the Reservations Manager, Shana Maitland.

Signed Up For the Talent Show and Art Exhibition?

The "Tropical Treats" Talent Show, Art Exhibit and Ice Cream Social on Friday night at the host hotel, The Holiday Inn/Crossroads, is FREE for all conference attendees and is shaping up to be a whole lot of fun. Be sure to register early so that we can properly stock the ice cream bar, which will include dairy and non-dairy choices as well as gluten-free toppings. We are still looking for participants for the Talent and Art Exhibit portions of the evening. If your kids, or your family, have a talent they would like to share, or art they would like exhibited, contact Kelly McCants by emailing party@vahomeschoolers.org to sign them up!There is no fee for the party, but tax deductible donations are welcome and an RSVP is required.

Cleaned Off Your Shelves for the Used Resource Sale?

Here is a great opportunity to help VaHomeschoolers and declutter your house! We all have them...those resources that were great but are no longer used or those resources that we thought would be great but never took off. Let VaHomeschoolers take them off your hands and free up space for more resources! The sale is for donations only, there will be no consignments. All proceeds will go directly to supporting VaHomeschoolers.

We are looking for the following: kid's curriculum, books, videos, manipulatives, CDs, or other items that you have found useful for homeschooling but are now ready to part with. We will be accepting donated resources at the Science Museum of Virginia between 10am and 7pm on Friday, July 20th and the morning of Saturday, July 21st (mention that you have resources to donate at registration and someone will direct you where to go). If you can not make it to the Science Museum of Virginia but still would like to donate, please contact Traci Haden at usedresourcesale@vahomeschoolers.org to coordinate.

Signed Up to Volunteer?

The VaHomeschoolers Conference is the conference for homeschoolers by homeschoolers. Which means that we need your help! As a volunteer-driven organization with no paid staff, everything that we do relies on homeschoolers like you (or your teens!) who care enough to donate their time and energy to making this conference a rousing success. Our dedicated volunteers have been hard at work all year long to make this conference a possibility. But there is still a lot to be done the weekend of the conference from proctoring sessions, to helping with registration and the used resource fair, to helping with clean-up. As a volunteer, you will have access to the Volunteer Hospitality Room which will provide lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the day in addition to the chance to meet and work with homeschoolers throughout the state. Teen volunteers are also invited to the "Friday Fiesta" Thank You party on Friday afternoon. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Shez Silverberg at volunteers@vahomeschoolers.org if you are interested in becoming an integral part of this wonderful event.

Collected Box Tops and Printer Cartridges?

An easy way to support VaHomeschoolers is through our give-back programs such as the Box Tops for Education and the Staples Recycle for Education programs. If you have box tops or used printer cartridges that you have been saving for VaHomeschoolers, we will have a collection box at the VaHomeschoolers table in the atrium. Be sure to drop them off and stop by and say "hi!"For more details about these programs, see: http://www.vahomeschoolers.org/about//boxtops.asp http://www.vahomeschoolers.org/about/give_back.asp#recycle
