September Homeschool Parents Book Club at B&N

Our next meeting will be on Monday, September 17th, from 6:30 to 8pm, at the Barracks Rd Shopping Center's Barnes and Noble. There is no child care available, but older kids that can be by themselves in the store are welcome, as are nursing babies. Grandparents or other relatives can be encouraged to join you in the discussions, as well.

For this meeting, I'd like to discuss John Taylor Gatto's book Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling.

But even if you haven't read it, you are still welcome to join us. If anyone would like to suggest a book for October, please let me know.

I also will be glad to explain the legal aspects of homeschooling in Virginia. In the future, books will be chosen according to a specific topic that parents are interested in discussing. If you give me your ideas for topics, I can track down a good book to lead the club in. People are welcome to join the book club at any time.
