The Reading Tub

I received an email with information about a local charity, but the resources are available to all:

I own The Reading Tub, Inc. a 501c3 charity dedicated to children's literacy and family reading. Our portal is a website (http://www.thereadingtub.com) where we post in-depth profiles of books for children. One goal is to help families bring reading home for their children ... and that includes providing information about books that meet their child's interests. We purposely do not review books with media characters or with tie-ins to TVs or movies.

We receive books on any number of subjects for children ages 0 to 13, and would be interested in (a) letting your families know about our website; and (b) offering them an opportunity to participate as volunteer reviewers. One of the things that sets our work apart is that we always include the target audience's perspective, as well as describe the educational value (implicit or explicit) in the books.

We have a community service project with a non-profit in California where teens at an after-school center for at-risk youth read books for the 9 to 12 audience and then write the reviews. We post their profiles (with the organization logo .... no names) on the Reading Tub website. It gives them language arts practice (particularly comprehension and writing) and also is community service time.

After we review the book, it is donated to non-profits working with children who struggle with reading or at-risk youth who would not otherwise have reading material in their homes. If you would like to know more, please don't hesitate to contact me. We are located in Keswick, VA, and our number is (434) 971-7648.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Warm regards,Terry-- Terry DohertyPresident, The Reading Tub, Inc.
