Announcing the Dance Barn in Greeen Co

Emily has been taking a jazz dance class for the last several weeks that is taught by a homeschool mom who is a highly trained dancer. Her name is Kelly Silliman, and you can see more about her dance bio here if you scroll down a little. She sent an announcement out recently to let everyone know about her new venture. Below is the information.

Coming Soon--The Dance Barn

Dear friends and family,

As some of you know, Tom and I are starting a new chapter of our lives by opening a dance studio here in Greene County, Virginia. We have just signed a lease on a 2,000 square foot commercial space in Stanardsville, VA, and will begin the build-out as soon as we can. We are so excited to share this adventure with all of you, and wanted to let you know some of our plans for the next few months.

Please mark your calendars now for an open house on Saturday, April 5th. This event will be an opportunity to see our (hopefully completed) studio, try some sample classes, see some short performances, and get a better idea of our many plans for the space. In addition, the newly formed Charlottesville Dance Alliance has declared April to be Dance Month here in the Charlottesville area, and we will have information about the activities and performances happening that month.

In May and June, we will be holding week-long dance camps for homeschoolers. Our first camp will focus on Exploring Dance, and students will have an opportunity to take classes in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and social dancing. More information on these camps will be posted to all the homeschool e-mail lists as well as our website as it becomes available.

In July, we will be holding summer dance camps for students of all ages, offering classes in all styles of dance. More information will be available when our website is up and running.

And finally, our Grand Opening will be in September 2008, when we begin offering a full schedule of classes for all ages in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and social dancing. I hope that those of you in the area will have a chance to check us out!

Thank you to all of you who have listened to us chatter on about our dreams, and to everyone who has encouraged us along the way. We have been through a lot in the past year, and are so grateful for the love and support that has poured forth for our family. We feel blessed to be able to now put our energy into a project like The Dance Barn!

P.S. As long as you're marking your calendars, I will be performing a lot this spring:

  • March 28th and 29th--Living Education Center Dance Benefit
  • April 20th--inFluxdance at the Paramount, including a dance theatre piece based on the Lorax
  • April 25th and 26th--UpRooted Dance Theatre at the Charlottesville Performing Arts Center
