Dance Barn--The Nutcracker Auditions and More

Forwarding this info for local families:

Greetings, Dancers and Families!

Our first week of classes at The Dance Barn was a success! We had many new students join us and word is still getting out. Enrollment will be ongoing, so please tell your friends, neighbors, acquaintances, school friends, and anyone else you can think of about us!

I wanted to take the opportunity to remind you that auditions for our December production of The Nutcracker Suite are coming up this Saturday, September 13th at 1:30 pm. All students who audition will be cast, and students should be taking a minimum of one ballet or jazz class at The Dance Barn. Rehearsals for the show are Saturdays from 1:30 to 3:30, and the performances will be held December 12th and 13th at The Dance Barn. Did you know our barn doors actually open? That's right, in December the studio will transform into a theatre, complete with curtains and lights! In addition, we are lucky to be welcoming a professional ballerina from the newly formed Charlottesville Ballet to perform the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Performing with a professional is an exciting and unusual opportunity for the students involved with this project!

One of our goals at The Dance Barn is to keep dancing as affordable as possible, and we have several plans in the works to support that endeavor. We are working to establish a scholarship fund through a not-for-profit umbrella organization. This would allow people to make tax-deductible donations towards need-based tuition support for students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to dance with us. We are also always taking donations of leotards, tights, and dance shoes in all sizes in an effort to have these items on-hand for people to borrow as needed.

Last, and most importantly, we are working to build a costume closet so that students are not required to buy their own costumes for any of our shows. If you have any old dance costumes hanging in your closet or an old dress-up box, please consider donating them to The Dance Barn. Every little bit helps!

I hope everyone enjoyed their first dance class of the semester (except students with classes on Tuesdays, who will start this week!) and I look forward to dancing with everyone this year!

All the best,

P.S. As always, Social Dance Night continues every Thursday night from 7-10pm. We are working on SALSA and WALTZ this month, so come on out, and bring a friend!
